From my experience as an EFL teacher, I have come to believe effective EFL learning is more than just content mastery, too many students find themselves grammatically advanced whilst being unable to use the language effectively. All students, in order to become engaged members of society, need to understand not only the facts presented in books and lectures, but they also need to be able to use the information that they´ve learnt in real world situations.
I will assist my students to express themselves confidently, with fluidity, flexibility and dynamism, being able to express what they wish to communicate with flair, according to their level. I shall create a learning environment that fosters self correction and problem solving.
My role as the teacher will be to assist each student in developing their own potential and learning styles. Language learning is not a one size fits all discipline. I believe it's essential that my approach is tailored to the specific learning needs of each student. This will be achieved by using an eclectic mix of the direct method and the communicative language learning methods, for students whose priority is to communicate effectively in real world situations. This method will be used structurally and students will be immersed in the target language at a level that is appropriate for their learning level.
I will incorporate hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, and individual work that engages and activates the students learning processes. Incorporating technology into the classroom is a great way to keep students engaged, whilst presenting information in an exciting way, and appealing to almost all learners. Evaluation is achieved through traditional examining methods, alongside self-researched essays and projects. Students will be expected to take an active role in learning.
Feedback from students is essential regarding my presentation of materials and the assignments they are expected to complete. Anonymous surveys ensure I am meeting their needs. I will regularly stress my commitment to continual improvement and encourage students to give me feedback. Through these methods, I aim to exceed their expectations as an instructor.
