Hi there! I’m María Marta, a certified Spanish teacher and public translator of English. This dual background allows me to teach you real, practical Spanish that’s useful for everyday life as well as for the business, finance, or legal world.
I’ve also studied English, French, German, and Portuguese, so I know exactly what it feels like to be on the student side of language learning; this gives me a unique perspective to guide you.
I resumed teaching in 2023, and since then, I’ve been enjoying teaching Spanish to adults online. My solid experience as a public translator and editor in the fields of economics, business, and law enables me to support students who need Spanish for both daily life and their specific professional goals.
With a communicative/conversational approach, my classes start with videos, audios, or texts selected according to your objectives. Together, we identify useful vocabulary, structures, and phrases to get you started. Then, with my prompting questions, you take the floor: you debate, argue, infer stories, share your experiences, or we even simulate real situations like meetings, negotiations, or even a trip to the grocery store... always keeping in mind the sociocultural aspect, meaning what to say, how to say it, and what not to say depending on the context. And to wrap things up, there’s always time to correct, practice, and consolidate what we’ve worked on. Without losing flexibility, and if it suits your style and goals better, we can also incorporate a textbook as a general and progressive framework for the process.
Now, to master a language, you need to know its structure and grammar. For that, I use what I call my "scaffolds," which are clear and visual flashcards I created, that you’ll always have on hand until they naturally become part of your speech.
And something key: the emotional aspect. I strive to create a warm space where mistakes and humor are our best allies.
